We accept donations by bequest.
A testamentary gift is a gift of all or part of one's property to a specific organization or person by will.
By donating to the Foundation, you can use your valuable assets to further promote art and culture in Tokyo and to preserve and develop the history and culture of Edo Tokyo. We will use it with care, respecting your wishes as much as possible, such as the facility to which you wish to bequeath and the use of it.
Acceptance facilities can be selected from the Edo-Tokyo Museum, Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, Tokyo Metropolitan Garden Art Museum, Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, Tokyo Art Theater and Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation of History and Culture.
Flow of testamentary gifts
- STEP1 Consult a specialist
Since bequests require knowledge of inheritance, please consult a lawyer, judicial scrivener, financial institution, or other specialist when considering making a donation to the Foundation. - STEP2 Making a Will and Designating Executors
Please make sure to consult with a third party expert before making a will.
You also designate an executor to carry out your will according to your will. Since legal and specialized knowledge is required for an executor, we recommend that you appoint a professional such as a lawyer or judicial scrivener.
Neither the Foundation nor any facility may serve as a witness or executor in the making of a will.
* Please check with the institution you wish to consult with regarding fees such as the request fee, will trust fee, etc., and notarized deed preparation fee. - STEP3 Notice of appointment
When you have completed your will, please let us know that you have appointed our foundation as your bequest destination.
If you would like to consult with the Foundation about wording and notation in order to prepare a valid will, please contact us in advance.
Wills can also be revised depending on the circumstances. If you want to change the contents and make a new will, please contact the person in charge. - STEP4 Disclosure of Will
Upon receiving notice of your death, the executor will contact us and we will confirm the contents of your will. - STEP5 Execution of Will
The executor will proceed according to the will and the designated assets will be donated to the Foundation. - STEP6 Issuance of Certificate of Receipt
In accordance with your request, we will send you a certificate of receipt and a letter of appreciation.
Regarding preferential treatment for inheritance tax
If there is a bequest of property to the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture, inheritance tax is not imposed on the bequest.
Please.
As a general rule, the Tokyo Metropolitan History and Culture Foundation does not accept donations other than cash.
In addition, bequests may cost the Foundation a large amount of money, or we may decline them due to the nature of the assets you donate.
